Musical Children

Musical children played
Like musical chairs.
Their hearts are breaking,
But who cares?

Holidays, weekends,
Where do they go today?
Whose turn is it?
Who gets the final say?

Wave goodbye to Mom.
Say “Hello” to Dad.
Embraces them,
Feeling sick and sad.

One car pulls up;
Another pulls out.
Nothing seems right.
Beginning to doubt.

Tonight other children
Will take their place,
Sleep in their bed,
Mess up their space.

But still they love, and
Don't want to make a choice.
Don't understand what happened,
Or the meaning of divorce.

Now questioning, now wondering
No longer happy and carefree,

“If they stopped loving each other,
…....Will they stop loving me?”
